Holiday spending tips for Chile

  • It’s important to carry cash as plastic is mainly used in established businesses like hotels, car rental firms and higher-end restaurants. ATMs are usually quite easy to find.

  • Prices can vary quite broadly across the country but the capital, Santiago, was among the most expensive of all destinations surveyed in our Long Haul Holiday Report.

  • Beware of charges when withdrawing cash or using plastic, as these can be high relative to other countries.

  • High-value bills can be tricky to break so it’s useful to have smaller notes and change on you.
